About Me

Name's Jessi...but you can call me Geo. I'm a stubborn and independent 24-year-old and have no idea what to do with my life, but that's okay. Cat lover. Music lover. Fluent in sarcasm. I love to read because it's how I escape reality. I could recommend books til I'm blue in the face.

Rating System

EPIC - This book is so full of awesome that a 5 star rating just isn't good enough!

I loved it - Definitely a favorite. I would read it again for sure!

I really liked it - Great read but doesn't quite make it on my favorite shelf.

I liked it - Good read, but not really memorable.

It was OK - Didn't care for it much, but still had some redeeming qualities.

Not for me - I could barely get through it. These are the books that usually spawn a long, sarcastic rant session from me.

After careful thought and consideration I have decided not to participate in In My Mailbox, in light of the recent events involving Kristi at The Story Siren. I am revoking my support for her and her blog for an indefinite amount of time (maybe forever). What she did was wrong and I don't think any of us should be supporting her right now. While she may be already paying the price for her mistake, I believe she needs to stew in some isolation for a while.

Let me just make something clear while I'm on the subject...

The difference between a 'mistake' and an 'accident'
(taken directly from dictionary.com)
A mistake: An error in action, calculation, opinion, or judgement caused by poor reasoning, carelessness, insufficient knowledge, etc.
In my words? Any screw up you make - whether you meant to or not.
An accident: An undesirable or unfortunate happening that occurs unintentionally and usually results in harm, injury, damage, or loss; casualty; mishap. Any event that happens unexpectedly, without a deliberate plan in cause.

Please note the differences between the two. What Kristi did was still a mistake, but definitely not an accident. Mistake, sure, but at the same time it should not be taken lightly. Yeah, the plagiarized content wasn't necessarily original as some people have said, but it is very clear that she took the exact outline of the post. Anyone can make a How To post. But the posts were almost identical in format and content, which is...what's that? PLAGIARISM.

Anyone who can't see that is either blind or ignorant, to put it bluntly.

Why am I not participating in IMM anymore? Parajunkee's View said it best:

You snub the offender by not letting them be heard, you don’t read their blogs, you don’t enter their contestsyou don’t follow them on twitter and you do not participate in their memes. You definitely do not click on their advertising or support their advertising or affiliate links. Without a platform that blogger goes from a media outlet, to a personal blogger.

With that being said, from now on I'm just going to do my own post to share the books I receive every week or two. If I can find a meme that I like enough to participate in, I'll go with that. But for now, it's just me. :)

  2. I don't follow The Story Siren, so I'm a bit confused as to what happened. What, exactly, did she do?

  3. Emily: Me too! Can't wait to read them :)

Nikki: She plagiarized. I made a post about it that has the different posts of the offender and the victims and some others' thoughts as well, you can see it HERE.

  4. OOoh nice! Kate's book looks pretty!

I was all excited to do the new Sunday meme, but as it turns out, I didn't get any wonderful books to show off! :(

It's a reprieve for my TBR stacks, but it hurts not to get a book. Hoping tomorrow I can get to the bookstore though! Hope you enjoy your reads!

  7. Nikki, there are a few that I know of:
Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews
Showcase Sunday hosted by Books, Biscuits, and Tea
Goodie Basket hosted by Word Spelunking

    Hope that helps!

  8. I'm very glad that people openly state whether ot not they "support" Kristi. I do not participate in IMM any longer, either. Actually searched for memes and challenge-alternatives and wrote a post about it, too, though it is by far not complete. v_v

Anyway, I hope you enjoy all of your books! I love Stacia Kane!
