About Me

Name's Jessi...but you can call me Geo. I'm a stubborn and independent 24-year-old and have no idea what to do with my life, but that's okay. Cat lover. Music lover. Fluent in sarcasm. I love to read because it's how I escape reality. I could recommend books til I'm blue in the face.

Rating System

EPIC - This book is so full of awesome that a 5 star rating just isn't good enough!

I loved it - Definitely a favorite. I would read it again for sure!

I really liked it - Great read but doesn't quite make it on my favorite shelf.

I liked it - Good read, but not really memorable.

It was OK - Didn't care for it much, but still had some redeeming qualities.

Not for me - I could barely get through it. These are the books that usually spawn a long, sarcastic rant session from me.

Reviews:

This week's TGIF question: Reading blues! We all get them from time to time. What helps you overcome those reading slumps when nothing seems to grab your attention?

I have those quite frequently. Typically I can push myself through by just trying something else. I've gotten to the point where I don't like to make myself finish something that I don't like (unless I know it will result in a sarcastic rant session to entertain my blog readers). But, on the rare occasion that I can't get through it, I'd pick up a book that I know I'll love. Case in point, the Fever series. I read Darkfever a few months back because I was stuck in a large rut of mediocre books. I'll never get sick of KMM!

This week's Follow Friday question: Have you had a character that disappointed you? One that you fell in love with then 'broke up' with later on in either a series or a stand-alone book? Tell us about him or her.

Hmm. This is a hard one for me! I haven't read many series (not long ones anyway) and I can't think of any stand-alones that would have that much character change. Typically if my opinion changes, it's in a good way as the character develops.
I suppose there is one though, from my favorite books (again, the Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning). The character in question is Dani. I absolutely loved her spunk and charisma (and sarcasm), but in book 5 (I think), something she did was revealed and I was very taken aback that she would be involved in such a thing. The reasons are as yet unexplained, but until I find out why I'll continue to be disappointed in her.

  4. I've heard mixed things about that series. I guess it's just a polarizing story.

  8. I read the Fever series last year in March or so and since then often grabbed something from KMM when I felt the reading blues coming. It's gotten to the point that I'm actually sick of the Fever books right now. HORRIBLE experience!

  9. Love the Fever answers!! Dani did disappoint me a little too at that point. I guess she was "growing up", but did she have to lose her spunk?

  10. Yeah, I don't read many series either. The book I chose is a series, but by the end of the book I hated the characters so much that I didn't read the sequel.

  16. I just finished an amazing book, and had that kind of empty feeling, like, "What next?"

    That's the worst!

Now I'm torn between the book that I SHOULD read, because I have a review that's due, and the book that I WANT to read, because it's like Jane Austen, but with magic: Shades of Milk and Honey by Mary Robinette Kowal.
