About Me

Name's Jessi...but you can call me Geo. I'm a stubborn and independent 24-year-old and have no idea what to do with my life, but that's okay. Cat lover. Music lover. Fluent in sarcasm. I love to read because it's how I escape reality. I could recommend books til I'm blue in the face.

Rating System

EPIC - This book is so full of awesome that a 5 star rating just isn't good enough!

I loved it - Definitely a favorite. I would read it again for sure!

I really liked it - Great read but doesn't quite make it on my favorite shelf.

I liked it - Good read, but not really memorable.

It was OK - Didn't care for it much, but still had some redeeming qualities.

Not for me - I could barely get through it. These are the books that usually spawn a long, sarcastic rant session from me.

TGIF is hosted by GReads

.:Weekly Recap:.
Music Monday (9): Anna Dressed in Blood
Top Ten Tuesday (17): Favorite book covers

Reviews:

This week's TGIF question: Promote an author!! Is there a particular author you wish got more recognition? Pick one author and tell us why we should read their work.

I can't think of anyone that I wish got more recognition, but Karen Marie Moning is my favorite author. I've read all of her books that have been released and loved every last one of them. She's such a creative and talented writer that I can't see myself ever not liking anything of hers.

This week's Follow Friday question: Have you ever looked at a book's cover and thought, this is going to be horrible? But, was instead pleasantly surprised? Show us the cover and tell us about the book.

Honestly, if I think the book is going to be horrible then I don't pick it up. Almost all of the books I've read have appealing covers (to me, at least) except for perhaps one or two...and if I don't like the cover I will only pick it up if it has a really interesting synopsis. For example:

Between Seasons by Aida Brassington
Goodreads|My review

Patrick Boyle dies in the fall of 1970, just days before he's due to report for the Vietnam War draft, which seems like a good thing until he realizes he's stuck in the house with no indication of when he'll be escorted to heaven. And after his parents leave the house, he's trapped without company -- until a mysterious woman who can channel his memories buys the house forty years later. The spring brings with it new life, but falling in love with the new owner may only bring heartbreak to them both.

I didn't care much for the cover, but I liked the sound of the plot and it ended up being a good story.

  1. This is definitely one I wouldn't pick up based on the cover either, but the synopsis does sound good! Thanks for sharing :)

  2. I agree, the cover doesn't jump out at me screaming 'needs to be read'. I do find the summary to be intriguing though!

The cover you posted isn't the best, lol! I don't think it's hideous, but I would never pick it up based on the cover alone!

  36. I agree with you about the lackluster cover. I mean, I don't mind if they're subtle or simple in an understated way but they at least need to say something about the story being told in the book. :)
